The scholarship is open now to receive applications from both full-time and part-time students enrolling on the Social Research MSc. The scholarship aims to support a student from a low-income or less advantaged background who would otherwise struggle to fund their study. One or more fee waiver scholarships worth £10,000 will be awarded to a student entitled to permanently live and work in the UK who has been admitted on to the Social Research MSc starting in September 2025, and similarly for entry in 2026 and 2027.

The Scholarship is funded by an alumnus of the Sociology Department at the Â鶹ÊÓƵ. This alumnus is funding this scholarship because of the recognised quality of the MSc in Social Research course at Surrey and the national and international standing of the Sociology Department. In 2024, Sociology at Surrey was ranked 17th in the world-renowned Shanghai Global Subject Rankings, placing it 3rd in the UK for Sociology.
