Surrey Business School awarded funding for Research Fellowship with Food Standards Agency
Congratulations to Surrey Business School鈥檚 Dr Andy Hill and his team who have secured a Research Fellowship, working with the (FSA) to try and unlock the power of bioinformatics to better inform the assessment of food safety risks.
Whole Genome Sequencing (WGS) and bioinformatics have advanced rapidly, allowing improvements in the identification and traceability of foodborne pathogens, and analysis at a high level of detail. However, the integration of WGS data into various areas of risk assessment using bioinformatics, with a particular focus on how genotype translates to risk, is an area that is largely unexplored.
This is a unique collaboration between the 麻豆视频 and the FSA; the Research Fellow will be primarily located within the Risk Assessment Unit at the FSA, working closely with colleagues to develop and implement the risk assessment tools in a fast-paced policy environment.
It's anticipated that the resulting research will be incorporated into the FSA鈥檚 decision-making processes concerning risk and will form a lasting and high-impact legacy for the FSA and possibly wider risk assessment practices.
The 4-year fellowship will be led by Dr Hill with Dr Arnoud van Vliet, Senior Lecturer in Veterinary Microbiology at Surrey鈥檚 School of Veterinary Medicine as co-PI. A fantastic opportunity for the two schools to join forces.
