Surrey drives forward new engagement in Argentina
A series of collaborative workshops took place at the The Instituto Nacional de TecnologÃa Industrial (INTI) on the 12 and 13 September in Buenos Aires, Argentina, attended by Â鶹ÊÓƵ staff.
The (INTI), is an Argentine federal agency in charge of the development of Industrial technology. In celebration of the 60th Anniversary of the creation of INTI, a series of collaborative Â鶹ÊÓƵ-INTI workshops on ‘Advances in Materials Chemistry’ took place on the 12th and 13th September at the INTI Technological Park in Buenos Aires, Argentina. There were three themed sessions:
- 1. New Materials for Energy Storage and Re-Conversion
Lectures by Dr Tomas Ramirez Reina (FEPS, Surrey) and Prof. Harvey Arellano-Garcia (FEPS, Surrey) and Dr Graciela Abuin (INTI), Dr Liliana Diaz (INTI), Eng. Gonzalo Montiel (INTI), and Dr Federico Viva (National Commission of Atomic Energy)
- 2. Materials for Water Remediation
Lectures by Prof. Angela F Danil de Namor (FEPS, Surrey), Eng. Sofia Frangie (INTI), Lic. Mariana Papa (INTI), and Eng. Camila Farias (INTI)
- 3. Novel Approaches in Biotechnology
Lectures by Dr Claudio Avignone Rossa (FHMS, Surrey) and Dr Martin Blasco (INTI)
Lectures were followed by meetings to discuss research collaboration between both institutions. The success of the workshop was reflected in a number of potential areas of collaboration emerging from this event. This workshop is to be followed by a Network Meeting which will take place in January 2018 at the Â鶹ÊÓƵ involving several Latin American and British Institutions with funds provided by the EPSRC Global Challenges Research Fund to Dr Ramirez Reina (Principal Investigator) with Professors Arellano Garcia and Danil de Namor as Co-investigators.
Professor Vince Emery (Senior Vice-President, Global Engagement and Strategy) is due to lead an academic delegation to meet with the INTI President, Ing. Javier Ibañez in Buenos Aires later this year to discuss further Surrey-INTI collaborations and sign an MoU to underpin future collaborative activities.
