Studying nuclear shapes and deformation with Coulomb excitationCoulomb excitation is an ideal experimental probe of nuclear structure and shape phenomena owing to the well understood interaction between collision partners and the relatively large reaction cross sections. During my PhD project I will be exploiting the Coulomb-excitation technique with post-accelerated beams of both radioactive and stable ions. This together with state-of-the-art experimental setups will address key regions of the nuclear chart where sudden evolution of nuclear shapes, shape coexistence phenomena, and exotic shapes are thought to exist.
