Studying for an MEng at Surrey confirmed I wanted to work in medical device product development. It also gave me a strong grounding in fundamental concepts across a variety of medical technologies.

I’m currently studying for a masters, learning about the sustainable development of the food system, investigating important world challenges like food insecurity.

Prior to GSA, I was unaware of the value of formal acting training and the benefits of building a solid technique. GSA helped me to collate a personalized actor’s toolbox specific to my needs as a performer and for this, I am extremely grateful. I feel that I left GSA a much more well-rounded and consistent performer than when I entered.

I was part of the Surrey/ICE Scholarship scheme. This meant that at the time of joining Mott MacDonald as a graduate civil engineer, I’d already had 16 months of experience there. Without that scheme and the links Surrey has with industry, I don’t think I’d be sitting in this job today!

The thing that attracted me most to GSA was the sense of community within the School. There was a much friendlier atmosphere at the audition stage, compared to other schools, it felt like my presence at the audition was valued.

GSA isn’t just for however long your course is; it’s a community and support network you carry with you forever that supports and uplifts each and every member and I feel very lucky to be a little part of that. I think that’s very rare when it comes to conservatoire training, due to the competitive nature of the industry, but I know whenever I need it, GSA is always there.

My strongest and fondest memories are of full school internal showings of work. I loved coming together with all the teachers and students to share what we’d been doing during the term. It was very supportive and inspiring to see the talent and individuality in the School."  

Take advantage of being a student for as long as possible. Companies love helping students, whether it’s giving you discounts or offering you work experience during the holidays, and it never hurts to just ask the question!
