Surrey promoted Abbott to me when I was looking for a Professional Training placement. I’m now working there, so it’s given me a great opportunity for my graduate career and beyond!

Graduate Tonmeisters are an amazing network to be a part of and even now I call on people I studied with to help, either for advice, or for a project together.

Surrey helped my career by having the Professional Training placement experience on my CV. It was such a game-changer in interviews. Other candidates would reference university projects or modules, while I’d use real-world examples working on real projects. My placement helped me get ahead of the competition.

Setting up a business in lockdown has been challenging, but my degree gave me a foundation of business knowledge that I’ve applied to this new endeavour, as well as my computing expertise.

I’m currently studying for a research masters in clinical research. I really enjoyed the research element of my undergraduate course and knew I wanted to keep learning but wasn’t sure if I should apply for a PhD, so this felt like the perfect middle ground.

In the last few years, my main projects have been touring as a session musician/programmer and I’ve felt incredibly lucky to be able to explore cities in countries I haven’t visited before, in the name of work.

Without a doubt the best thing about my course was the ability to specialise in a field. The Creative Music Technology course allows students to study a wide range of topics and find where their strengths and interests align.

I’m now working as a newly qualified paramedic and can finally enjoy getting those paramedics slides on my shoulders that I’ve worked so long and hard for, to provide person-centred care to my patients.

My time at Surrey fully prepared me for life as a qualified practitioner and I’ve now moved back home to the Isle of Man, where I’m working as a midwife at a local hospital.
