How we support LGBTQIA+ equality
We strive to create spaces for our staff and students to have professional, academic and personal support. There are a range of options to engage with including wellbeing events and social activities run throughout the academic year.
Rainbow Network
We work to provide a supportive environment for all LGBTQIA+ staff through the organising of University-wide events as well as informal meetups.

Rainbow Allies
This network is open to all staff at the University. After completing the LGBTQIA+ Awareness Training and agreeing to a set of pledges, staff become valued members of the Rainbow Allies group where they actively advocate for and demonstrate their commitment to the University’s LGBTQIA+ community.
Rainbow lanyards
The University is proud of its branded rainbow lanyards to demonstrate support for all aspects of equality, diversity and inclusion, including the LGBTQIA+ community. These rainbow lanyards carry a positive, inclusive message and are a big part of our community, worn by many of our community all around campus.
Pronoun badges
The University has rolled out our Students’ Union’s red pronoun badges and our new blue University pronoun badges for staff.
Wearing a pronoun badge, and encouraging others to, helps to normalise the non-assumption of pronouns, which reduces the frequency with which trans people are misgendered. Wearing a badge is an effective act of allyship with the trans community and for trans people, pronoun badges are also an important tool to facilitate sharing their pronouns.
