Entry year
2022What attracted you to choose the Â鶹ÊÓƵ and to study your course here?
I was intrigued by a report from the School's Chinese public broadcast on WeChat, which mentioned a dedicated career fair for translation and interpreting students at the University. Since language is a small niche in the market, I decided to search for the relevant course at the University. I found that it aligns well with the market's needs. For instance, the professional translation course emphasises real-time translation materials and utilises powerful corpus background backups. Other courses focus on teaching students how to effectively use updated machine translation as a tool to enhance post-editing quality.
What is your strongest memory of your time at Surrey – what do you picture first when you think of being here?
The Â鶹ÊÓƵ demonstrates a strong commitment to inclusivity and support for minority groups on campus. I was particularly impressed by an inclusive meeting that aimed to gather suggestions and advice regarding our students' needs. Additionally, the presence of Chinese food in the school's co-op store adds to the University's effort to cater to diverse culinary preferences.
When walking around the campus, I personally felt a sense of encouragement and respect, which greatly resonated with me. I truly appreciate and love the inclusive atmosphere at the university.
What is your advice for students aspiring to work in your profession?
I think for Chinese students, I know it’s uneasy to be in a totally different environment. But we really need to lean-in, be brave and stand up to fight for what you deserve.
