Our Centre researches into many varied aspects of satellite design, control and applications. Spacecraft technology requires a broad range of backgrounds from physics and engineering to mathematics and software systems. This broad range is reflected in our research areas which cover many aspects of space and its uses.

Astrodynamics

Astrodynamics research deals with the modelling, estimation and planning of spacecraft’s orbits and attitude configurations.

Aiming to support NASA and ESA’s space exploration roadmap by developing extraterrestrial construction and resource extraction technologies.

Developing new concepts and technologies across many application areas where hard real-time requirements and big data are meeting to create new and immediate problems.

Propulsion

The principal aim of our small satellite propulsion research is to produce low-cost, moderate-to-high performance propulsion systems capable of moving microsatellites from low to high earth orbit and beyond.

Developing models, applications and tools from remotely sensed data with the primary goal of monitoring our planet and its resources.

Expertise in the space radiation environment and its effects on space systems developed through over 20 years of in-orbit observation and experimentation.

Spacecraft structures and mechanisms

Looking at the dynamics of spacecraft structures to guarantee the appropriate performance and the implementation of mechanisms to enable specific functions.
