The Â鶹ÊÓƵ is able to support students attending an open day, campus tour, or offer holder event with a travel bursary of £40. The bursary will be paid to your bank account after you have attended the event. If you require immediate support with the costs of travel, please contact the Widening Participation and Outreach Team at wp@surrey.ac.uk. See below for eligibility criteria.

Eligibility criteria

To apply for a travel bursary, you must meet all the essential criteria below, plus one of the listed Widening Participation and Outreach (WPO) criteria:

Essential criteria:

 

  • Home students (currently residing in the UK)
  • Studying at a state-funded school or college
  • Booked onto an offer holder event/interview/open day/campus tour.

WPO criteria

(must meet 1 or more):

 

  • Care experienced students including:
    • With foster carers under local authority care
    • In a residential children’s home
    • Being looked after at home under a supervision order
    • Living with friends or relatives in kinship care
  • Estranged students
  • Young carers
  • Forced migrants (Refugees or Asylum Seekers, including those awarded Humanitarian protection, Limited Leave to Remain or Discretionary Leave to Remain in UK)
  • Adult learners (students starting their first degree over the age of 21)
  • Gypsy, Roma, Irish Traveller, Showperson or Boater students
  • Students in receipt of free school meals (within the last 6 years)
  • Students in receipt of a 16-19 bursary
  • Students from areas of multiple deprivation (*see IMD look up tool below)
  • Students from low participation neighbourhoods (**see POLAR4 look up tools below)
  • Disabled students.

* You can check your postcodes index of multiple deprivation data using this . Your postcode must show a 1 or 2 in column F to be eligible.
** You can check whether you live in a low participation neighbourhood using this . Your post code must be say quintile 1 against POLAR 4 to be eligible. (see table on map).
